Artists You Should Know About

When it comes to music, we all have our tastes. Music is one of the ways we express ourselves. Through social media and streaming, it has never been easier to discover new music or artists. Good music can be hard to find, but hopefully some of these artists inspire a change in your recently played section. Here are some rising artists I think everybody should know about.

Mac Ayres is an R&B/Soul singer-songwriter skilled on the guitar, bass and keyboard. His sound is smooth and reminiscent of earlier R&B artists such as D’Angelo, whom Ayres notes as one of his inspirations.

H.E.R. is one of the more recognizable names on this list, yet her music goes underappreciated. Hiding her face from the world, H.E.R. puts an emphasis back on talent in the music industry. With captivating vocals and a strong sense of identity, H.E.R. deserves all of the hype that Billie Eilish receives, and then some.

Releasing music under the alias Scarypoolparty, Alejandro Aranda is a singer-songwriter that rose to prominence after competing on “American Idol.” His music, however, is unlike what you hear on the radio and I mean that in the best way possible.

Hailing from Orem, Utah, The Aces make shimmering indie-pop that is fun, but still has substance. The all-female band constructs bright, summery songs with edge, mostly due to lead singer Cristal Ramirez’s raspy vocals.

BROCKHAMPTON is a rap collective that is described as “gay, black, white, DIY, ambitious, all-inclusive and would-be pop stars.” Defining themselves as a boyband, their music, while distinct, is just as diverse as the group themselves.

Singer-songwriter-producer Jeremy Zucker opposes the idea of genres, but mostly releases indie-pop music with electric elements similar to artists like Jon Bellion, whom he is often compared to. Nonetheless, Jeremy Zucker has a breezy, almost effortless nature about his music that definitely sets him apart from the rest.

The Internet is another collective that blends R&B, hip hop, funk and EDM. While all members of the provide different elements that are a part of the bigger picture, vocalist Syd stands out with an organic subtlety and swagger that is worth a listen.

Beyonce proteges Chloe x Halle are a sister duo that write, produce and record their songs from their living room. With ethereal voices and unique production skills, the sisters are releasing music on par with their mentor, but only reaching a fraction of the audience.

Joji began his career as a YouTube personality, (he is responsible for the viral trend known as the Harlem Shake), but now makes music under the Asian music label 88rising. Joji’s sound is an interesting fusion of hip hop and electronica, with a little bit of lo-fi elements mixed in for good measure.

American soul singer Leon Bridges makes music that sounds like it was it made in the 1960s and it works. His vocals are definitely influenced by and comparable to great voices such as Otis Redding. Beyond the aesthetic appeal, Leon Bridges creates timeless music for the modern world.
