I stopped writing when Trump took office

I’m coming out of the haze of shock now, nearly two years in. I won’t be silenced any longer.

I was jolted by our country putting someone in our highest office with a trail of sexual assault accusations. As a rape survivor, I am re-traumatized by the frequent reminders that rape culture is thriving under Trump.

He is the rock on which the pillars of sexism and rape culture are built.

It took Christine Blasey-Ford to shake me out of it. I believe her. I am encouraged by her bravery to come forward, for her country, to try to stop us from continuing to put these abusive men in power.

On his inauguration day, I wrote in anger: “I hope he fails miserably ” and “No, I will not set aside differences for the sake of unity.” While I continue to foster that resentment towards him, my anger grows stronger for friends and family that put him in office and believe the lies he tells to oppress and profit. How dare they.

Ask yourself honestly whether fear of the “other” in you is what allows you to justify supporting him. If you doubt that he is evil incarnate, check his record on hate-mongering and oppression and reevaluate your perspective.

He makes fun of disabled people, even among his own supporters.

He targeted Muslims for his travel ban and full-court pressed until he legally eeked by Muslim Ban 2.0.

He responds to the murder of unarmed black men and children by police and the Black Lives Matter movement with: “All Lives Matter” and “Blue Lives Matter,” and calls for unity. No justice is served and the police keep getting away with murder.

He called immigrants “rapists.” And then he stole their children. Now he wants to take away birthright citizenship from people whose parents are not American, asserting that he has the power to change the Constitution by executive order.

He said there are two sides to every story when white supremacist rallies resulted in a crowd was mowed down by a crazed white supremacist. He claims to be a Nationalist now, which is a tip of the hat to his white supremacist base.

He implicates the Jewish community when he points to George Soros as the funder for anything that doesn’t suit his agenda, whether he has anything to base the claim on. This is a tactic to prod his anti-semitic base.
