Andela Epic

Some people think that when they work alone they are more successful. and others say I can do what makes a lot of money; it does not matter if I am passionate about it or not. when I joined Andela, I found them with some core value which they called EPIC. You may ask yourself what it epic. epic is a combination of five adjective that defines Andela.

Excellence

Passion

Integrity

Collaboration

These are Andela’s core values that lead all Andela to the best level. When you look at those values, you can see success in it. because when you have those values nothing can limit you to be the best you want to be. Only the sky is the limit.

When you explore more about these core values, you understand more and start using them in your life. So, let’s go deeper and see what they are.

I remember being asked if everyone is born intelligent. This meant that either you are intelligent or not. But, I disagreed with that. Maybe someone might disagree with this statement too. The reason why I disagreed was that I believe that everyone can become anything he/she wants. I believe that what I do or the way I do it defines who I am. When we say excellence,it does not mean there will be no mistakes during the journey to excellence; but whenever there is a mistake I shift gears and try another way but still to achieve that same thing. When I understood this value (quality), I learned that giving up is not a value for people who want to be excellent, but whenever it is hard they focus and work harder until it happens. And those people are characterized by a resilient heart. Knowing this value shifted me from one stage to another. I realized that I can even learn and work as others work even though we haven’t reached there at the same time. After learning more about Excellence, I pushed myself to work hard and never to give up until it happens.

Excellence is the gradual result of always striving to do better.

These days people are focusing on the amount of money they are earning every month regardless if the career they are pursuing goes together with they are passionate. Whenever we are choosing a career just because we earn a lot of money from it and it does not go with our passion, we may end up finding ourselves frustrated and unhappy in what we do. And whenever we are unhappy with what we do, we cannot achieve our goals and the money we followed will not be there anymore. I said this because I was taught to do what I love and love what I do. and this is the best way of choosing a career I remember when I was at university, I was asked to choose a career and I went for programming and everyone was telling me that it is so hard; that I will not make it to the end. But when you love what you do, it will never be about the money; but whenever you wake up in the morning and remember that you are going to code, it will always lift you up. you will never get tired of doing what you love and the result will always be the best. The best thing about passion is even when you do what you love, it will never be hard for you to take a risk.

I was once told that a person of character should have integrity. Some people say that there is no one with integrity but I don’t agree with them because being integrity is a choice and the more you try your best to do everything with integrity, it ends up being your habit. Integrity means doing everything with honesty and having strong moral principles. In life, we intend to do wrong while thinking that it will not affect anyone. But here are dos and don’ts of integrity.

Do:

Keep your word

Be honest and truthful

Be as a person of character

Behave ethically

Be consistent in your actions

Don’ts:

Cheat, lie or steal

Allow unethical behavior

Act for selfish gain

Vilify others to make yourself look good

Manipulate others

As I said above, being a person of integrity is your choice.

According to Andrew Carnegie teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision. the ability to direct individual accomplishment toward organizational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain the uncommon result. I myself I believe that only my mind cannot reach to the best destination; when I team with some other minds, I get the best solution. because two heads are better than one. For instance, I have a challenge but I have the ability to code but a friend of mine has this ability to manage time. combining the two will make our work easy and quick.

Conclusively, all of these Andela’s core values are described as a tool to build a better organization or company. They will not only help in companies but if my social life and professional life will be changed.
